What it is, and why it matters
The C14 Timberwolf is a Canadian-made long-range sniper weapon system (LRSW) chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum, developed by PGW Defence Technologies for the Canadian Armed Forces. Adopted in 2005 to replace the aging C3A1 (Parker-Hale M82) in the long-range role, the Timberwolf provides Canadian snipers with the ability to engage targets at ranges exceeding 1,500 meters. The rifle saw extensive combat use in Afghanistan with Canadian forces.
The C14 Timberwolf earned its combat reputation in Afghanistan where Canadian snipers used it extensively in Kandahar Province. The rifle was part of the Canadian sniper team's equipment when they achieved some of the longest confirmed kills in the conflict. Canadian snipers are among the most highly regarded in the world, and the Timberwolf became synonymous with their operations in the Panjwayi and Zhari districts during the height of the Canadian combat mission.
The C14 designation follows Canadian Forces naming convention. The Timberwolf uses a PGW-proprietary action with a Jewel trigger mechanism. The McMillan A5 fiberglass stock provides a rigid yet lightweight platform with an adjustable cheek piece and length of pull. The rifle is compatible with a variety of suppressors. Canadian snipers pair the Timberwolf with the Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PM II scope. The rifle can also be chambered in .300 Win Mag and .308 Winchester.
