About
What it is, and why it matters
The Carabine de Gendarmerie a Cheval Mle 1874 is the mounted-gendarmerie carbine variant of the French Gras single-shot bolt-action system designed by Colonel Basile Gras. Chambered for the 11x59mmR Gras black-powder metallic cartridge, it shortens the standard Fusil Gras Mle 1874 into a handier long arm for troopers on horseback, fitted with brass furniture, a bent bolt handle and a cleaning rod. It is nearly identical to the cavalry carbine, differing chiefly in its ramrod and its quadrangular socket bayonet issued to mounted gendarmes.
France produced distinct Gras carbines for cavalry, mounted and foot gendarmes, and artillery, each subtly tailored in furniture and bayonet fitting so a soldier's branch of service could be read from his shoulder arm at a glance.
The mounted (a cheval) gendarmerie carbine is distinguished from the foot (a pied) gendarmerie carbine and the cavalry carbine largely by furniture and ramrod details. Surviving examples were often updated to the 1880 (M80) standard, which added a gas-relief groove to the bolt head.

Trajectory
What the round does downrange
Solved from the muzzle figures and the bullet. The dashed rule is the effective range on the record, and the crosses are the steps the solver returned.
No load solved for this record yetThe flight path is computed from a cartridge and a bullet. This record has no ammunition filed against its chambering, so there is nothing to solve.
