About

What it is, and why it matters

Copy a link to this section

The Enfield Enforcer is a British bolt-action sniper rifle chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, developed by the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock in the early 1970s. Based on the proven Lee-Enfield No.4 action used in the L42A1 military sniper rifle, it paired a heavy target barrel with a refined sporting-pattern walnut stock and a telescopic sight, and fed from a 10-round detachable box magazine. It was offered primarily as a police marksman rifle for British constabulary firearms units.

The Enforcer shared the same No.4 bolt action lineage as the L42A1, the British Army's standard sniper rifle of the Cold War, repurposing that battle-proven design for domestic police marksmen as the United Kingdom built up dedicated armed-response capability in the 1970s.

A police-market derivative of the Lee-Enfield No.4 / L42A1 family rather than a military-issue weapon. Typically supplied with a telescopic sight fitted on the left-side action bracket. Some specification figures vary between sources owing to its low-volume, semi-bespoke production.
