What it is, and why it matters
The Llama Omni II is the 9x19mm Parabellum chambering of Gabilondo y Cia's short-recoil, double-action Omni pistol, distinguished from the .45 ACP Omni I by its high-capacity 13-round staggered magazine. Designed by American engineer Gary Wilhelm in cooperation with Stoeger, Llama's US importer, the all-steel Omni II retained the model's unusual dual sear-bar trigger mechanism for single- and double-action fire, a decocking safety lever, a finger-contoured trigger guard, and an adjustable rear sight. High-polish blued and expensively made, it was imported only briefly between 1984 and 1986 before the costly, complex Omni line was withdrawn.
Llama's twin sear-bar trigger was a clever attempt to break into the premium double-action market dominated by the Smith & Wesson Model 39, but the Omni's price, mechanical complexity, and the brand's budget reputation doomed it within two years.
The 9mm Omni II fed from a staggered magazine in which the top rounds sat in a single column before expanding to a double column past the trigger bars, giving a 13-round capacity versus the 7-round single-stack of the .45 ACP Omni I. The pistol was very expensive for its day.
