About
What it is, and why it matters
The Techno Arms MAG-7 is a compact South African 12-gauge pump-action shotgun fed from a 5-round detachable box magazine seated in its pistol grip, much like a submachine gun. To fit the magazine into the grip it uses a proprietary short 60 mm (2.36 in) 12-gauge magnum shell rather than the standard 70 mm round. Built around a stamped-steel receiver with a polymer grip and forearm, it was designed for close-quarters work such as room-to-room searches in confined spaces.
The MAG-7 is best known today through video games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, where it appears as a pistol-grip pump shotgun; in the real world its unobtainable proprietary ammunition and heavy trigger left it regarded as one of the least practical combat shotguns ever made.
The proprietary 60 mm shells are rare and difficult to source, a major practical drawback. The civilian MAG-7 M1 variant added a longer barrel and a fixed buttstock to meet length requirements for legal sale.
