What it is, and why it matters
The Schultz & Larsen M52 is a Danish bolt-action target rifle introduced around 1952 at the company's Otterup factory for service-style precision shooting. It was built from shortened, polished and refurbished German Kar 98k Mauser stocks fitted with new heavy target-weight barrels chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish or .30-06 Springfield as required. Long esteemed among Danish marksmen for their accuracy, the M52 and its successors carried the firm's match-rifle reputation into post-war competition shooting.
Schultz & Larsen turned surplus wartime Kar 98k Mausers into precision target rifles, rebarreling and refinishing them so that a former German infantry rifle became a Danish match gun prized on the shooting range.
Part of the M52/M58/M58E/M69 family of Schultz & Larsen service-style target rifles built on refurbished Kar 98k Mauser actions. Later models such as the M69 added new target stocks and further chamberings including 7.62x51mm NATO. Many detailed dimensional specifications are not published.
