What it is, and why it matters
The Schultz & Larsen M58 is a Danish bolt-action target rifle built for service-style competition shooting. Made at the Otterup factory on a Mauser M98 action, it combined shortened, polished and refurbished Kar 98k stocks with new heavy target-weight barrels chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish or .30-06 Springfield. Together with the earlier M52, it established Schultz & Larsen's reputation for precision match rifles in the post-war era.
After the German occupation of Denmark ended, Schultz & Larsen turned quantities of captured Kar 98k rifles left behind by the retreating Wehrmacht into refined civilian target rifles, rebarreling them with heavy match barrels in Scandinavian and American calibers.
Physical dimensions (weight, barrel length, overall length) are not well documented and are recorded as null; magazine and velocity figures follow the Mauser 98 platform and the chambered cartridge. Marketed alongside the earlier M52 as a service-rifle-style target arm.
