About
What it is, and why it matters
The Tanfoglio Force is an Italian semi-automatic pistol introduced in 1997 by Fratelli Tanfoglio. It is a polymer-framed development of the steel-framed Tanfoglio T95 Combat, itself a derivative of the CZ 75 with a Browning-type linkless locked-breech action. Like the CZ 75, the slide rides inside the frame rails rather than outside, giving a tight slide-to-frame fit and good accuracy. The Force uses a frame-mounted ambidextrous safety that permits 'cocked and locked' carry, plus an internal firing-pin block, and was offered in a range of service and action-shooting calibers.
The Force family extends Tanfoglio's long line of CZ 75 clones into the polymer-frame era, keeping the distinctive slide-inside-frame layout that made the original so popular with competition shooters.
Sold in some markets under the IFG (Italian Firearms Group) and Defiant Force branding. Offered in 9x19mm, 9x21mm IMI, .38 Super, .40 S&W, 10mm Auto and .45 ACP. The later Force 99 line (1999) added double-action-only and compact models.
