What it is, and why it matters
The Beeman P1 is a single-shot, spring-piston air pistol chambered for .177 caliber pellets. Designed by American importer Dr. Robert Beeman in the early 1980s and manufactured in Germany by Weihrauch, it uses an overlever cocking mechanism with two selectable power levels to compress a powerful mainspring, driving a .177 pellet at up to roughly 183 m/s (600 fps). Styled loosely after the M1911 semi-automatic pistol, it is a full-power sporting air pistol prized for its accuracy and build quality. It is sold in Europe as the Weihrauch HW45.
Dr. Robert Beeman drew up the P1 to fill a gap for a high-power spring-piston sporting air pistol, taking styling cues from the Colt M1911. Weihrauch liked the design so much that they produced it as the HW45 for the European market alongside making the P1 for Beeman in the United States.
Available in .177, .20 (special order) and .22 calibers. The .177 version offers the highest velocity; cocking only to the first lock point gives a lower power setting around 380 fps.
