The original BLR was introduced in 1969 and manufactured in Belgium until 1972, then production moved to Miroku in Japan. The Model 81 revision came in 1981, and the Lightweight '81 debuted in 2003 with the aluminum alloy receiver and straight-grip stock. Unlike traditional lever actions, the BLR uses a rotating bolt head with multiple locking lugs, similar to a bolt-action rifle, which contributes to its accuracy. The rack-and-pinion lever mechanism provides smoother cycling than traditional cam-operated lever actions. Barrel length is 20 inches for short-action calibers and 22 inches for long-action and magnum calibers. Weight ranges from approximately 6.5 to 7.25 lbs depending on caliber and barrel length.
