What it is, and why it matters
The BSA Majestic is a British centre-fire bolt-action sporting rifle built by the Birmingham Small Arms Company. Introduced in 1959 as the successor to the BSA Royal, it used a Mauser-pattern action and was offered in a range of action lengths and chamberings, including the .30-06 Springfield. The Majestic featured a checkered walnut sporter stock, a hinged floorplate, a chamber-loaded indicator and dovetail scope mounts, and a lightweight Featherweight version with a ported barrel was produced to tame recoil. It remained in production until 1965, when it was replaced by the Monarch series.
BSA introduced its post-war sporting rifles in three different action lengths to court the booming American hunting market, with the Majestic sitting alongside the Royal, Imperial and Monarch in the company's centre-fire line.
Marketed primarily at the post-war American and Commonwealth hunting market. The Featherweight variant was ported to reduce felt recoil in lightweight chamberings.
