The Byrna TCR (Tactical Compact Rifle) is a .68 caliber CO2-powered less-lethal launcher built in a compact rifle configuration for home and personal defense. Powered by a 12-gram CO2 cartridge that is punctured on the trigger pull via a patented activation system, it fires semi-automatically from quick-release 7- or 12-round magazines at over 300 fps (about 91 m/s / 12.5 J). It accepts Byrna's kinetic, chemical-irritant, and inert practice projectiles, and features a quad Picatinny rail with vertical foregrip, flip-up sights, and a collapsible buttstock with an adjustable cheek riser.
Byrna Technologies (formerly Security Devices International) built its brand on CO2-powered .68 caliber self-defense launchers marketed as a firearm alternative; the TCR was introduced in 2024 as the company's first rifle-format launcher.
A less-lethal launcher, not a firearm; sold without background check in most U.S. jurisdictions. The TCR extends Byrna's SD/LE pistol line into a shoulder-fired carbine-style platform.
