About
What it is, and why it matters
The FB MAG-95 is a Polish double-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, developed in the mid-1990s at the Fabryka Broni Lucznik-Radom arms factory. It uses the Browning-type dropping-barrel short-recoil locking system combined with a double-action trigger and a hammer decocking lever, and feeds from a 15-round detachable box magazine. Designed as a Western-influenced replacement for older Makarov-chambered service pistols, it was submitted to the Polish Army pistol trials in 1995 but was rejected for exceeding the mass and dimensional criteria set by the requirement.
With the MAG-95 the Radom designers broke from their earlier Makarov-based practice, adopting the 9x19mm Parabellum and Western safety features in a bid to win the post-Cold-War Polish Army sidearm contract.
The MAG-95 lost the Polish Army pistol trials to the WIST-94 despite offering better reliability and drop safety, because it exceeded the required 800 g mass limit and 190x135x33 mm dimensional envelope. The improved MAG-98 followed with ambidextrous safety and slide-release levers.
