The IWI Galil ACE 7.62 NATO is the battle-rifle chambering of Israel Weapon Industries' modernized Galil ACE platform, available as the carbine-length ACE 52 and the full-length ACE 53. A Kalashnikov-derived design, it uses a long-stroke gas piston driving a rotating bolt, giving it the legendary reliability of the original Galil while shedding weight through extensive use of polymers. The select-fire military rifle pairs a steel receiver with a polymer grip and magazine housing, a side-folding telescoping buttstock, ambidextrous controls, and integral Picatinny rails for optics and accessories.
The Galil ACE is the third-generation evolution of the original IMI Galil, itself derived from the Finnish Valmet Rk 62 interpretation of the Kalashnikov AK. The ACE line brought the rugged AK-pattern action into the modern era with lightweight polymers, ergonomic ambidextrous controls and Picatinny rails, and the 7.62 NATO ACE 52/53 positioned it as an Israeli alternative to Western battle rifles like the FN SCAR-H and AR-10.
Specifications listed reflect the full-length ACE 53 (508 mm / 20 in barrel). The shorter ACE 52 uses a 400 mm (16 in) barrel and weighs about 3.6 kg. Civilian semi-automatic versions are marketed in the United States by IWI US.
