Chambered for the .25R (6.3mm) blank charge, its cylindrical Type C body drives a retained steel bolt of roughly 11.43 mm (0.45 in) diameter forward on contact with the animal's skull, delivering a concussive penetrating blow that renders cattle, bulls, hogs, sows and sheep instantly insensible. The bolt is captive and automatically retracts after each shot, so no free projectile is discharged. Interchangeable cartridge power loads of roughly 1.25 to 4.50 grains let the operator match the charge to the size of the animal, while a breech-locking safe position and a clear ready-to-fire alignment indicator make the single-hand tool safe and precise on the line.
Jarvis Products Corporation, based in Middletown, Connecticut, is one of the world's largest makers of meat-processing equipment. Its PAS (Power Actuated Stunner) range covers pistol-grip and cylindrical Type C body styles across .22R and .25R cartridge calibers, letting plants pick a stunner and power load matched to everything from sheep to full-grown bulls.
