The PP-2000 is a compact, polymer-bodied 9×19mm submachine gun/PDW developed by KBP Instrument Design Bureau in Tula, Russia, and unveiled in 2004. Patent filed in 2001 and issued 2003. It uses simple straight blowback operation from a closed bolt for accuracy, weighs only 1.4 kg empty, and feeds from 20- or 44-round box magazines housed in the pistol grip. Designed for close-quarter combat, vehicle crews, and law-enforcement entry teams, it is selective-fire with a cyclic rate of 600-800 rpm and an effective range of about 100 m. It is chambered to handle Russian 7N21 and 7N31 +P+ armor-piercing 9×19mm loadings for defeating Class IIIA soft body armor.
The signature engineering feature is that the spare 44-round magazine slots into the rear of the receiver to serve as a buttstock - eliminating the need for a separate folding stock when the extended magazine is carried. With Russian 7N31 +P+ armor-piercing ammunition, the PP-2000 can reportedly defeat Class IIIA soft body armor at ranges out to ~30 m, giving it AP performance approaching dedicated PDW rounds (FN 5.7×28mm, HK 4.6×30mm) while retaining the logistical advantage of worldwide-standard 9×19mm chambering.
Most distinctive feature: spare 44-round magazine slots into the rear of the receiver to function as a buttstock - eliminating the need for a separate folding stock when the extended magazine is carried. Adopted in 2008 as one of two standard police SMGs alongside the PP-19-01 Vityaz. Velocity ~430 m/s with standard 9x19; up to ~600 m/s with 7N31 +P+ AP.
