What it is, and why it matters
The PSA AK-47 GF3 (third-generation 'Gen3 Forged') is Palmetto State Armory's American-made AK-47 chambered in 7.62x39mm. Built on a 1mm stamped steel receiver with a hammer-forged front trunnion, hammer-forged bolt and carrier, and a nitrided 4150 steel barrel with a 1:9.5 twist and M14x1 LH muzzle threads, the GF3 was PSA's answer to the inconsistent quality of earlier domestic AK attempts. It uses a mil-spec single-hook trigger, an 800-yard rear sight leaf, and a side-rail optic mount, and ships in trims including Magpul MOE ('MOEkov') and Zhukov furniture as well as classic wood. Largely U.S.-made aside from a Korean-sourced trunnion and Israeli-sourced bolt finished by PSA, the GF3 helped legitimize PSA as a serious AK manufacturer and made an affordable, reliable stamped AK widely available to American buyers.
After several false starts with domestic AK production, Palmetto State Armory's GF3 ('third generation, forged') finally delivered a reliable, affordable American AK-47, and its 'MOEkov' Magpul-furnished trim became one of the most recognizable budget AKs on the US market.
PSA's flagship US-made stamped AK; the GF3 ('Gen3 Forged') uses hammer-forged trunnion, bolt, and carrier. 16" nitride barrel, 1:9.5 twist, M14x1 LH threads. Ships in MOE (MOEkov), Zhukov, and classic configurations; the AKP GF3 is the pistol variant. Trunnion sourced from Korea and bolt from Israel, finished by PSA; most other parts US-made.
