What it is, and why it matters
The PP-9 Klin is a compact Russian submachine gun, a strengthened derivative of the PP-91 Kedr designed by Yevgeny Dragunov's design lineage and produced by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau. Chambered for the hotter 9x18mm PMM (Makarov Modernized) cartridge, the Klin features radial grooves cut into its chamber to slow case extraction under the increased pressure. It retains the Kedr's blowback action, folding wire stock, and compact form, firing at a very high cyclic rate. It was produced from the mid-1990s to 2002 on order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Klin descends from a submachine gun penned by Yevgeny Dragunov, better known for the SVD sniper rifle; to handle the souped-up 9x18 PMM round it gained grooves machined into the chamber walls to keep the spent case from sticking.
Differs from the standard Kedr only by being slightly strengthened and having a fluted (radial-grooved) chamber for the higher-pressure 9x18 PMM round. The fluted chamber also allows safe firing of standard 9x18 Makarov ammunition.
