What it is, and why it matters
The Polymer80 G150 (marketed in later revisions as the Rhino RL556) is Polymer80's flagship 80-percent AR-15 lower receiver, sold as an unfinished receiver blank and jig kit rather than a complete rifle. Injection-molded from nylon-reinforced polymer with a solid-core design, a stiffened magwell and a mil-spec buffer-tube housing, it was Polymer80's very first product and the platform that launched the company in 2013. Once machined to completion with the included drill and end-mill bits, the receiver accepts standard AR-15 mil-spec lower parts and uppers, producing a lightweight 5.56x45mm NATO rifle. The specifications listed reflect a representative completed 16-inch carbine build on this lower.
Polymer80 was founded in 2013 in Dayton, Nevada by Loran Kelley Jr. and David Borges, rising to prominence as the dominant maker of 80-percent unfinished pistol frames that let hobbyists legally build their own Glock-pattern handguns at home. The company became a flashpoint in the 'ghost gun' debate; following years of regulatory and legal pressure under ATF Final Rule 2021R-05F, Polymer80 ceased operations in 2024.
BUILD PLATFORM: Sold by Polymer80 as an 80% AR-15 lower receiver / jig kit, NOT a complete rifle. Accepts standard AR-15 mil-spec parts. The G150 evolved into the Rhino RL556 / RL556v3. Specifications represent a typical completed 16" 5.56 NATO build. This was Polymer80's first product (2013). Discontinued in 2024.
